NUIC Week 1 Recap

High school football is back. In week one of the NUIC Forreston, the defending 1A state champions rolled past Dakota 30-12. Durand/Pec turned in an impressive win in the season opener 58-7 over Amboy. Lena-Winslow opened with a 50-6 rout of Eastland/Pearl City. West Carroll came from behind to edge Galena 22-20. Stockton beat Milledgeville 26-6. East Dubuque blanked A/FC 26-0.
On Saturday Aquin beat Orangeville 28-16.
The top performers for the opening week. From Lena-Winslow Sean Ormiston had 161 yards on 13 carries and quarterback Luke Benson threw for 130 yards and a trio of touchdowns. William Gustafson of Aquin at quarterback had 253 total yards and four touchdowns and added ten tackles. Jason Hermann of Stockton had 186 yards rushing.
And while they are no longer in the NUIC we will keep an eye on Polo and River Ridge in their first year of 8 man football. Both won their debuts Friday easily as River Ridge whipped North Fulton 60-22 and Polo rolled over
Hoopeston/Armstrong/Schlarman 54-14. And Warren in the Blackhawk WI Coop won 42-7 Friday over Cuba City to go to 2-0.
