New Study Says Bears Fans Are NFL’s “Most Heartbroken”
I'm totally sure that White Sox fans who just last year watched their team set a modern-day record for single-season losses just feel terrible about this. So do Bulls fans, who've watched their NBA franchise completely stink it up on the court since Michael Jordan and company were winning everything back in the 90s.
Let's not even get into Blackhawk fans who've had a front-row seat to watch a team that was once a dynasty turn into scandal-ridden, dysfunctional, cellar-dwellers. Or, Chicago Cubs fans who thought they were getting a dynasty after breaking the curse back in 2016...but most certainly didn't.
But consider this: almost all Chicago sports fans are Bears fans, so the Bears are the cup of heartbreak that every Chicago sports lover gets to take a big drink from. And we've had plenty of chugs out of that cup, according to a new study.
The Study, Using A Variety Of Measurements, Took A Look At Which NFL Fanbases Have The Most Heartbroken Fans, Then Broke It Down To The Top Ten
I was surprised to see that Bears fans are ranked number-one when it comes to having the most heartbreak over the years. I honestly thought the Green Bay Packers would rank higher because their fans have expected big things from teams with big potential, and have not received many of those things.
Bears fans, let me ask you: Have you expected big things from the Bears over the period of time since the 1985 Bears won it all? Of course you haven't. You want big things, but you don't honestly expect to get them. Is that really heartbreak?
FlashPicks, a betting picks, parlays, predictions, and news brand, recently researched which NFL teams have the most heartbroken fans through a variety of factors, and released a Top 10 list of most heartbroken NFL fans based on their findings.
FlashPicks ranked each team by a score of 100 based on the number of tweets, Google searches and Reddit posts containing “heartbroken” language made by each NFL fanbase this season.
The Study Also Looked At The Number Of Years Since Each Team's Last Super Bowl Victory, The Number Of Super Bowl Losses, Getting Bounced Out Of The Playoffs, And Seasons Where They Didn't Even Make The Playoffs
When all the numbers were crunched, it became apparent that the Bears fan base has suffered through being eliminated from the playoffs 20 different times, and have failed to even make the playoffs in 78 different seasons of their history.
Here are the top ten most heartbroken NFL fan bases, according to FlashPicks.com (scores are based on a 100-point scale):
- Chicago Bears: 58.6
- Detroit Lions: 58
- Kansas City Chiefs: 56.7
- Buffalo Bills: 54.4
- Cincinnati Bengals: 54
- Cleveland Browns: 53.7
- Los Angeles Chargers: 52.8
- Washington Commanders: 50
