University of Illinois basketball might finally be turning the corner down in Champaign.

It was a good week for the Fighting Illini. First, they held Purdue to 37 points in a win on Tuesday, then they took out a surprisingly good Rutgers team to close out the weekend. Add that to a season-defining win in Madison last week and the Illini were rewarded with a place in the AP top 25.

As you can see in the above tweet, the program had a rough decade in the 2010's. Josh Whitman was brought in as athletic director and he landed head coach Brad Underwood from Stephen F. Austin. Underwood has finally started to recruit good players and the results are starting to pour in on the court.

The next goal for Illinois should be an NCAA Tournament win, something they haven't achieved since 2013. You couldn't ask for better prep than the Big Ten regular season, the conference is absolutely loaded this year.

Stay tuned. A reminder that you can listen to all Illinois games right here on 1440 WROK.
