Chicago Mayor Suggests Senseless Boondoggle To Keep Bears In Town

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is trying her hardest to keep the Chicago Bears in Chicago and on the Lakefront but this isn't where she should be focusing her energy.

If you are only half paying attention to the "Will the Bears stay in Chicago story" you might be saying to yourself "Wasn't the Bears moving to Arlington Heights already a done deal?"

You'd only be half right with that statement.

The Bears HAVE already purchased the land that was previously occupied by the Arlington Racetrack, but no "official" move to Arlington Heights has been announced.

I threw official in quotes in the previous sentence because anyone that has been paying attention knows that the Bears moving to Arlington Heights has already probably been agreed to behind the scenes, everyone is just waiting for the right time to make the announcement.

All of this is the reason why this 11th hour proposal to put a roof on Soldier Field so the Bears will stay is so stupid.

The Bears aren't going to leave the Lakefront because it gets cold in the winter. They're leaving because they want to make a bunch more money. And you can't make a bunch more money if you're paying rent to the city of Chicago to play your football games.

Yes the Bears would like to play in a state of the art stadium, one that doesn't have the smallest capacity in the NFL, one that has decent parking, or one that isn't a logistical nightmare to get to on game days.

But I can pretty much guarantee you that if the Bears actually owned Soldier Field and got a taste of the profits it can turn, they wouldn't be looking to move out of the city.

The Bears only want what the city of Chicago and Mayor Lightfoot can't offer them: more money and a place of their own.

It's time to give up the fight Mayor Lightfoot, there might be some other situations in your city that you need to look into.
