Sure, you can get a burger just about anywhere but when you had the best, "anywhere" isn't good enough.

I don't know if I qualify as a foodie, as much as I'm just a guy that likes good food. That term "foodie" has such a negative connotation that goes along with it anyway, so I guess I'll just stick with "dude who likes to eat."

So as a "dude who likes to eat," I try to find the best places to do just that, eat.

When I saw Thrillist's 31 Best Burger Joints in America I knew then and there, I had to find a restaurant on the list that I can get at.

Lucky for me, two of the best burger joints in America aren't too far from Rockford. I mean, you'll have to drive to get your mitts on these burgers but one look at some of the mouthwatering burger photos and you'll start hunting for your car keys.

Here's the first one I peeped on the list:

Kopp's Frozen Custard in Milwaukee. I haven't been to Milwaukee since the pandemic began and now taking a close look at some of these offerings from Kopp's I think it's going to happen soon.

Thrillist on Kopp's Frozen Custard:

...the first time I took a bite of their burger, which at first glance looks like nothing more than your classic diner double adorned with the requisite vegetation, but upon further review has that magical alchemy of melty cheese, glutenous bun, and perfectly seasoned patties that only the greats possess.

KOPP'S FROZEN CUSTARD

If driving to Wisconsin isn't your thing, the second burger joint highlighted by Thrillist is in the Second City.

No, it's not a burger from Au Cheval, but it's little baby brother, Small Cheval.

Thrillist on Small Cheval:

...is a burger joint through, and through, and delivers the beefy, pickle and dijonnaise-laden, 'are you sure there isn't some kind of illegal drug in this' pleasure of Au Cheval with a fraction of the wait time.

SMALL CHEVAL

Have you been to either Kopp's or Small Cheval? Which of the two is your favorite? Tell us!
