Two local basketball teams had big wins on the hardwood and a wrestling team makes its second appearance in our weekly poll.

Another big shout out to Rock Valley College for sponsoring this winter long contest.

Each weekend through the winter season we will be taking nominations for the team of the week. You can nominate a team from Friday afternoon till Sunday night. Every Monday we will gather up the nominations and then put it up to a vote on the 1440wrok.com website.

The winning team will be announced during the morning show on WROK with RIley and Joe and receive a $100 Visa card for their program. At the end of the season, all weekly winners will go up against each other to be named Team of the Season and receive a $500 Visa card for their program.

Here are this week's finalists:

  • Rockford Lutheran Boy's Basketball - The 'Saders tallied two big wins over the weekend. First they won handily over Dixon on Friday night, a game you could have heard right here on 1440 WROK's Friday Night Hoops. Then they went on the road and dominated Buffalo Grove, a much bigger school, by 30 points. Lutheran is a very good basketball team and should make a run this postseason.
  • Freeport Wrestling - Two of the top wrestling programs in the Stateline squared off this week when the Freeport Pretzels took on the East E-Rabs. It was the Pretzels eking out a 40-39 win. This is the second week in a row the Pretzel grapplers have been in the running for $100 and should send plenty of players to the state tournament.
  • Guilford Boy's Basketball - It's been a rough start to the season for the Vikings. They only had one win on the season before having to shut down for a week because of a COVID outbreak in the team. They finally got back to the court this week and toppled one of the best teams in the NIC-10, the Hononegah Indians. A great win by the Vikings to maybe turn the corner on a disappointing start to the season.

So, who was the best this past week? Vote below.
