Over 18,000 votes were cast for our season-end Winter Team of the Year poll. A huge thanks to everyone that logged on to cast a vote.

In the end, it was the Harlem Boy's Swimming team that came out on top with more 11,000 votes to register one more surprise of the winter sports season.

Harlem Boy's Swimming beat 11 other worthy stateline winter teams to take home the award AND earn $500 for their program, courtesy of Rock Valley College. Those other teams include:

  • East Boy's Basketball - Coach Roy Sackmaster
  • Harlem Boy's Swimming - Coach Todd Mueller
  • Freeport Wrestling - Coach Anthond Dedmond
  • Rockford Christian Girl's Basketball - Coach Ted Lawver
  • Hononegah Girl's Basketball - Coach Jason Brunke
  • Hononegah Boy's Basketball - Coach Matt Miller
  • Belvidere North Cheerleading - Coach Tammy Rentschler
  • Winnebago Girl's Basketball - Coach Judy Krause
  • Freeport Boy's Basketball - Coach Tee Jay Jackson
  • Dakota Wrestling - Coach Pete Alber
  • Rockford Christian Boy's Basketball - Coach Isiah Johnson
  • Rockford Lutheran Boy's Basketball - Coach Tom Guse

You have some excellent teams on that list that should all be very proud of their season. Whether it was a postseason run or a monumental regular-season win, all these teams achieved what they set out to do and more when the season started back in late October.

The Harlem Boy's Swim team was definitely no exception to that. Led by senior Jeremy Mueller, the Huskies had an excellent season that ended with school records, conference championships, and multiple state medals in its wake.

Thanks again to all who voted in this last poll and all the Team of the Week polls along the way. We were very excited to join Rock Valley in getting some recognition and financial rewards for some of the great programs in the area.

It was a great Winter season, we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Congrats to all and good luck in 2023!
