OTD In Chicago Sports History: 17 Seconds Of Glory
7 years later and this is still serving up goosebumps.
The Blackhawks clinched their second of their 3-Stanley Cup dynasty of the 2010s in unlikely fashion on this date in 2013.
The Hawks entered the game with a 3-2 series lead but were outplayed and outshot by Boston for most of Game 6. They were down early 1-0 before tying it up 1-1 in the second period on a Toews breakaway goal. Boston regained the lead with about 8 minutes left in the game and with 90 seconds left in regulation it looked like the series was headed to a deciding Game 7.
Then the magical 17 seconds happened.
Brian Bickell kicked it off with a goal with 76 seconds left off a nice pass from Toews. Then, 17 seconds of game time later, Dave Bolland, the rat, cleaned up a rebound to break the tie and clinch the second cup in 3 seasons for the Hawks.
