Hononegah Grad To Fight For UFC Contract Sunday
Hononegah High School grad Corey Anderson is set to fight for a UFC contract Sunday in Las Vegas after being featured on the reality competition television show "The Ultimate Fighter."
The 24-year-old Anderson is a light heavyweight fighter (186-205 lbs.) who defeated three opponents on the show to make his way to the live finale of the mixed martial arts competition. Finalists from the show battle for a contact with the UFC.
According to the UFC's website, Anderson started fighting after he graduated from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2012. He was two-time All-American in wrestling.
Anderson has amassed a 2-0 record since becoming a professional MMA fighter in 2013. All fights on the TV show are exhibition bouts that don't count toward professional records.
"The Ultimate Fighter" finale airs 5 p.m. Sunday on Fox Sports 1. Anderson will fight Matt Van Buren (6-2). The card will be headlined by Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn.
