Auburn ends Boylan NIC-10 winning streak

ROCKFORD – The Auburn Knights avenged two razor-thin losses to Boylan last season to hand the Titans their first NIC-10 loss since Feb. 7, 2015.

Auburn’s 52-51 win last night at Boylan ends what appeared to be a 42-game conference winning streak under coaches Mike Winters and Brett McAllister. WROK is

trying to chase down a couple of results from the 2015 season. Auburn had two good chances to halt the streak in the 2016-2017 season, falling 50-48 and then 66-65 to the Titans. With the latter game featuring a 50-point outburst from Zach Couper.

Auburn scored the game’s first 10 points and led 25-20 at halftime. The Titans closed to within one, 36-35, to start the final quarter. The two teams then traded the lead five times in the fourth quarter before Yahmir Muhammad scored on a 16-foot, pull-up jumper with about two seconds left to give Auburn the win.

Muhammad scored 27 of Auburn’s 52 points. No other Knight was in double-figures. Jake Bergstrom and John Starck led the Titans with 11 points each.

Boylan’s 1994-1995, 1995-1996, 1996-1997 and 1998-1999 teams won 46 straight conference games. Those squads featured such stars as Jeremy Warner, Damir Krupalija, Joe Tulley, Nick Zachery, current East coach Roy Sackmaster and Jeff Myers.
