Rockford Lutheran and Rockford Christian boy's basketball will square off in a Sectional Championship game this Friday night. 1440 WROK will be broadcasting it live and streaming it on our 1440 WROK app.

The Crusaders locked up the matchup with a 74-64 victory over Lombard Montini. Lutheran is 26-6 on the year. No team has been within 10 points of Lutheran since a February 4th win over Winnebago 71-68. They are currently on a 17-game winning streak and are one of the State Championship favorites. Coach Tom Guse and his talented team have their eyes on a bigger prize but will not overlook a Sectional Championship title.

Waiting for them in Marengo are their crosstown rivals, Rockford Christian. The Royal Lions punched their ticket tot he Sectional Championship when they upset the top seed Niles Northridge Prep in the semifinals 58-51.

Their Regional final was a close game as well, defeating Wheaton Academy 65-63. Rockford Christian is playing with house money and more importantly confidence. They would love nothing more than to end the season of their cross-town rival and advance to the state's final 8 in the 2A IHSA Championship.

Myself and Dave Perrone will be courtside carrying the game for our weekly Friday Night Hoops broadcast. Pregame starts at 6:45, tipoff is scheduled for 7.

And because we now have a guaranteed Rockford team into the Supersectional, we will be broadcasting that game as well live from Sterling. Pregame will again be at 6:45, with the tipoff at 7.

Congratulations to all the area teams that participated in the IHSA basketball tournament. It has been an EXCELLENT year of stateline high school basketball and it will only get better next year.

Good luck to both the Royal Lions and the Crusaders Friday night. The atmosphere should be electric and we're happy to bring this epic matchup back to Rockford through our airwaves. People are excited for this one.
