Weiner dogs racing on ice make a great intermission show for Rockford IceHogs fans.

The great thing about minor league sports is that it's not just about the game. It's the whole entertainment package.

The Rockford IceHogs do a excellent job of entertaining the fans during timeouts and intermissions with games and features.

This past weekend they really did something special. They had an event called Pucks for Paws benefiting local animal shelters.

During the first intermission to go along with the theme, they had a weiner dog race. Several dachshunds were lined up to race across the ice. The first dog to their handler is the winner.

There were some early favorites. Kaner looked quick. Frankenstein was lively. Preston had his purple dinosaur to focus on.

When the dogs were released, the crowd erupted with excitement.

Some of the dogs were focused on the task, but a few decided to go in the own direction.

In the end, it was a photo finish. The winning weiner dog was Darby. He was sporting a Superman shirt.

Overall, one of the most entertaining intermission shows in a long time.
