Sure, you could be like almost everyone else in Rockford and just shovel snow. Or, you could get your team together, skip the shoveling and get to the sculpting in the 31st Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition scheduled for January 18-21, 2017 at Sinnissippi Park.

I'm looking at a note from our friend Laura Gibbs-Green from the Rockford Park District, and she asks that I let you know that the Rockford Park District is ready for you and your team this year. Entry rules and applications for adult and high school divisions are available by visiting www.ilsnowsculpting.com. Entry forms must include sketches of proposed sculptures. The state division application deadline is November 18, 2016, and the high school division application deadline is October 28, 2016.

Entries can be delivered to either Park District Customer Service location: downtown at Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Main St., Rockford, or Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd., Loves Park. Entries are also accepted by e-mail and fax (see application forms for details). There is no entry fee to participate, and notification of acceptance status will be given by November 23, 2016 for the state division and November 1, 2016 for the high school division.

If you've never checked out the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, here's a look back a couple of years:
