The short answer is that Illinois, like every other state, takes a rather dim view of driving under the influence. Some places may be a bit easier or tougher on offenders, but in the Land of Lincoln, it's still going to cost you a pile of money, time, and other difficulties.
With all the transportation alternatives waiting for the person who's had too much too drink, it's somewhat surprising that people go ahead and roll the dice with impaired driving. Nonetheless, they do--and Rockford Police are arresting them for it more than any other municipal police department in Illinois.
On Friday, as we were heading into St. Patrick's Day Weekend, I posted a piece here called "This Weekend, Saying No to a Breathalyzer Means Saying Yes to a Jail Visit." I pointed out that area law enforcement would be doing roadside safety checks to keep impaired drivers off the roads, and that refusing a breathalyzer test would land you in jail. It appears that not everyone listened.

Today is St. Patrick's Day. And, since St. Patrick's Day falls on a Friday, chances are many people will make this St. Patrick's Weekend. Since St. Patrick's Day/Weekend is second only to New Year's Eve as a drinking holiday, some will choose poorly and get behind the wheel after a lot of green beer.
17% of your waking hours (about 18 hours) are spent behind the wheel of a car each and every week if you're an average American. However, sharing the roads with lots of high-risk drives makes it seem like a lot more.
"Don't drink and drive" are four words that you've probably heard a million times, yet despite all the warnings, lots of people still do it. And, here in Rockford, they're getting arrested for it more than almost anywhere in the state of Illinois.

Well, to be honest here, you should drive safe and sober all year round, not just when area police agencies will be out in force. However, we're talking about the upcoming holiday weekend right now.
