We all know it takes a special kind of person to be a teacher and more often than not, their want to help others grow, learn, and succeed does not stop when their days in the classroom come to an end.

I am blessed to have several of these special in my life, people just like this week's Hometown Hero, Cindy Berg of DeKalb, who continues to dedicate most of her life to helping others.

Here is the nomination letter we received from Cindy's friend, Sue Voiles of Byron;

I want to nominate my friend Cindy. She taught for 40 years before retiring from the Belvidere school district. I had the honor of teaching her oldest daughter. The students that had her for a teacher loved her. She is always willing to help anyone and everyone! During the lockdown of the pandemic, she came and got me from Byron and I lived with her for 3 months! She attends church in poplar grove (because she used to live in Candelwick for many years) and is involved in bible study. She is always volunteering to help people out. She often babysits for her 2 daughters. Lately I know her church just moved into a new building. She volunteered to help them tape off walls so that they could paint. She offered to drive up there several weeks in a row so this could get done. I feel she is very deserving of this honor. She always makes sure everyone else gets helped!!

Cindy, as a small token of appreciation for all the things you do for friends, family, and the people of your community, we are giving you a $100 Amazon gift card courtesy of Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress in Rockford. Please use it for something that will make you smile or feel pampered, you totally deserve it!

Has someone like Cindy blessed your life in countless ways? Nominate them as a Hometown Hero, here.
