NIC-10 Football Week 3 Recap
By Al Zipsie
The NIC-10 saw some outstanding football games in week three Friday.
In a battle of last years Co-Champions Auburn edged Boylan 28-27 in a thriller. Terrance Smith scored on a 31 yard run for Boylan with 3:17 left in the game to pull within one. However, the PAT kicked missed and a desperation 48 yard field goal with time running out was wide right and Auburn hung on for the one point win.
For Auburn, they broke a 21 all deadlock with 8:32 left in the final quarter when Josh Cooper scampered for a 39 yard TD run. The extra point kick missed, but a running into the kicker penalty on Boylan gave Jamus Neal another try. This time the kick barely cleared the crossbar but it turned out to be the winning point.
Freeport upset Harlem 29-20. It was the first win for the Pretzels over the Huskies since 2006. Major Dedmond clinched the win with a 56 yard quarterback keeper with 5:18 left in the game. Dedmond threw for 130 yards and a touchdown and ran for another. Freeport has a chance to clickoff three straight wins as they now face Guilford, Jefferson and East.
Belvidere North won the city battle over Belvidere 47-13. Guilford edged Jefferson 19-14 and Hononegah whipped East 43-0. Auburn now faces Hononegah next Friday in a battle of the NIC 10 unbeatens.
