I had the pleasure of welcoming Ken Staaf from the Kiwanis Club of Rockford to the studio this morning to discuss what sounds like a really neat event. The "Budding Artists" showcase doubles as a way to celebrate young talent and raise funds for the artist, his or her school's art program, and for charities supported by Kiwanis.

The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N. Main Street.

There's a total of twenty pieces of original artwork by artists from Boylan Catholic, Rockford Lutheran, and Rockford's public schools. All will be up for auction during the night for a minimum price of $100.

Cost to attend is $50 per person. It includes admission, a night of live music, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar. For more information or to order tickets, you can head to the Kiwanis Club's website.

I wanted to share one piece of artwork from the program that Ken shared with me. I'm a sucker for great landscape paintings (prints of "The Voyage of Life" by Thomas Cole hang in my basement) and I thought this piece by Jefferson senior Diana Pacheco looked fantastic. Probably even better in person!
