Big Weekend of High School Hoops On Tap
A lot going on - the holidays were a haze, but it is time to start going strong.
A lot of game coverage this weekend coming from the Stateline Sports Hub. We will have coverage of the big game at Boylan tonight.
When Hononegah and Boylan met early in the season, it was the game of the year thus far with the Titans winning at the buzzer. Boylan has stayed undefeated in the conference since. A win tonight and Boylan may have the conference wrapped up.
Hononegah has been playing great as of late. They have won 5 of their last 6 since Christmas. And they can exploit Boylan down low. The key for Hononegah is what they can try to stop Zach Couper from doing. You can't shut him down, but it is his playmaking as much as his shot making that can cause teams trouble. Boylan's game-winning layup early in the season was Couper collapsing the defense and finding a cutter. This should be a great game tonight and the Boylan gym will be crazy.
Also coverage of Auburn and Belvidere. These two played an excellent game early in the season. Both are fighting in the middle of the pack and trying to gain some separation as sectional seeding awaits.
Auburn still likes to get up and down and push the pace. Belvidere is the opposite and likes to impose their will on the game. The Bucs have been able to do that on most nights, although it hasn't always translated to a win. If things are tight however and if Belvidere's Austin Revolinski is hot, the Bucs have the ability to hang in there and steal one.
Elsewhere around the conference, Harlem travels to East, Guilford travels to Freeport, and Belvidere North travels to Jefferson.
On the girls side, Hononegah will host Boylan. The Titans handled Hononegah very well in the second half in the first meeting, but this will be a big road test. Much like on the boys side, this game could decide the conference.
If all of that wasn't enough, tomorrow is the Rumble at the Rock games at Rock Valley College. This is a wonderful event that provides all day basketball. You have girls and boys, women and men with Rock Valley College. Jefferson and Auburn will meet and East and Guilford.
For the boys, Jefferson and Auburn will be a huge game not only in the conference but in sectional seeding. For the girls, East has been great but Guilford has also played well this year and that will present a unique challenge in a big gym.
The Rock Valley women will play Triton College in the middle of all of that and the night will cap with the men playing Triton College as well.
All in all a wonderful weekend of basketball in the area and really the perfect weekend to kick things in to high gear as we count down to regionals, sectionals, and the finals in March.
