Matt was born in Arkansas, but has lived in the Rockford area since the age of 12. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1999 and attended both Michigan State University and Western Illinois University while pursuing his degree in journalism. Matt served as the sports editor during his time at Western Illinois, and also worked for the Macomb Journal in Illinois and the Monroe Times in Wisconsin. He's entering his fifth year covering the NIC-10 for the Rock River Times. Matt's been a life-long Dallas Cowboys fan. He loves the St. Louis Cardinals, and considers himself a college basketball addict. Any free time left over is spent with his wife, Kate, and his stepson, Logan, the two most important people in his life.
