Sometimes, you'll see a notice for a food recall (pick a reason: E. coli, listeria, salmonella, foreign matter, metal pieces, etc.) and think to yourself "Okay, at least it's a recall on something that I never, ever eat," and go on with your day.

That's me, when it comes to a recall on cucumbers.

I don't like them, I don't want them, and I rarely, if ever, eat a cucumber that hasn't been turned into a pickle. I'm not a picky eater, but cucumbers just really don't do anything for me. Everyone in my family loves them and eats them on a regular basis, but if I'm going to contract salmonella, it won't be from eating cucumbers.

However, I respect those who do love them, so let's get to the info you'll need to keep yourself and your family safe.

According To Federal Officials, Cucumbers That Were Shipped To 14 States, Illinois Included, Are Being Recalled Due To The Potential For Salmonella Contamination

The cucumbers in question are whole, fresh cucumbers produced by Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. of Delray, Florida. These cucumbers were shipped to Illinois and 13 other states from May 17th through May 21st.

The other states included in the recall announcement, which began after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture informed the company that a product sample tested positive for the salmonella bacteria, are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Here's What To Do If You Think You May Have Purchased The Cucumbers Being Recalled

Since the FDA didn't specify which stores in the 14 states covered by the recall notice have received the cucumbers from Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc, your best bet would be to contact the store you purchased your cucumbers from and ask them if the recalled cucumbers were sold there.

Fresh Start Produce Sales says that if you have the recalled cucumbers, you "should not consume it and should destroy and discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund."

Consumers with questions should reach out to the company at 1-888-364-2993, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, eastern time.
