If you hate the heat, you might want to book a trip to Antarctica or somewhere cool ASAP, because the next few days in Illinois are going to be downright miserable.

Even if you love the heat, finding ways to stay cool is going to be absolutely imperative the next few days, and swimming is always a great way to do that!

Cool Places to Swim in Rockford, Illinois

I was today years old when I learned that there is actually an app that will help you find private pools to rent in your area. It's called Swimply, and if you download it and then type in "Rockford, Illinois" you will find several different pool options to choose from. (There truly is an app for everything these days!)

If finding ways to swim for free is more up your alley though, I just discovered a YMCA membership perk that allows you to do exactly that!

How to Swim for Free at Rockford Park District Pools This Summer

I have had a family membership at the YMCA for several years now, and we often take advantage of the indoor pools at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA and Northeast Family YMCA, but I just learned that our membership also allows us free entrance into Rockford Park District pools too!

The YMCA of Rock River Valley's June Newsletter says;

If you haven't heard, your YMCA membership now provides FREE access to all Rockford Park District pools. Simply show your YMCA membership card or scan in with your app at the pool.

This free admission perk is valid at Sand Park Pool, Alpine Pool, and Harkins Aquatic Center, and only applies to YMCA members. (So, if you have a family membership your kids will get in free too.) If you bring guests with you to the pool, they will still have to pay to get into any of these locations.

Mark Your Calendars for a Pool Party!

To celebrate this new partnership, the YMCA of Rock River Valley and the Rockford Park District are teaming up to throw pool parties at each location this summer. The first party at Sand Park Pool happened this past weekend, but two more are scheduled for this summer:

  • Alpine Pool - June 18, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Harking Aquatic Center - July 1. 2022, from 12 to 2 p.m.

Besides a fun day of swimming, these pool parties will feature games for the kids (in and out of the pool), face painting, a DJ, and more, so you better mark your calendars now so you don't miss it!
