As we've pointed out in this space before, it's been a tough summer for blood donations at the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC). With Labor Day weekend almost upon us, the RRVBC is once again calling for some help.

I just got a note from my friend Jennifer Bowman, the RRVBC's Public Relations and Marketing Manager, with this message:

The community blood supply continues to see the usual summer shortfall, and blood and platelet donors are needed before the holiday weekend.  The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) is asking healthy individuals to donate blood this week to help sustain the blood supply.  “We have begun to see a significant slow down in donations and it usually gets worse as we close in on the holiday weekend. Types O and B are needed at this time.

As previously noted, warm weather means more outdoor activities, and with those activities come accidents and injuries requiring the use of blood and blood products.

The problem for the RRVBC is that when blood is most needed, many of their regular donors are gone from school, on vacation, or otherwise engaged.

That's where you come in. If you've never donated before, I'd be willing to bet it's a whole lot easier, and far more painless that you may imagine.

If you can help, please call the RRVBC at  877-778-2299, or click here for more information.
