Sad news for Bears fans of all ages. According to the Chicago Tribune, former Bears great Doug Buffone has died at the age of 70.
Buffone is the all-time leader in games played for the organization and also spent many years on Chicago radio hosting a show that aired immediately following Bears games. He and Ed O’Bradovich became well-known for their passionate take, win or lose.
Paramedics were called to his home in the 1200 block of West Lexington St. around 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to police and fire officials. He was dead on the scene, they said.
Buffone retired in 1980 after playing for 15 seasons as a linebacker. He totaled more than 1,200 tackles in his career and grabbed 24 interceptions. He also was ranked by NFL.com as one of the most underrated Bears of all-time.
