If it were up to my daughter Molly, Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) would never have an animal in their care for more than one night, because my family would adopt them all. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're me), it's not up to Molly, and WCAS has plenty of animals that are ready to come live with you.

WCAS is so serious about finding good homes for their residents that beginning Monday, Aug. 8th, Winnebago County Animal Services is hosting a “Free Your Mind: Free a Pet” fee-waived adoption promotion! The promotion will last until the end of the day on Aug. 13th.

If you've been wanting to add a new family member to your household, this is a great time to do it. Animals eligible for fee-waived adoption include:

  • Lonely Hearts Club Members, cats or dogs that have been at WCAS the longest.
  • Golden Whiskers Members, cats or dogs 6 years or older.
  • Any adult (1+ year old) cat or dog that has been at the shelter longer than 60 days.

This promotion will be sponsored by the Winnebago County Animal Services Auxiliary (WCASA). The WCASA is a non for profit group of animal concerned citizens that work towards making a difference for the animals while under the care of WCAS.

I know firsthand how bringing home a shelter pet can change your life for the better in so many ways, but take a look at what being adopted does for this guy:
