These pictures posted by Kylie Rose Engelhardt on Facebook nearly broke the dang internet, and millions of hearts, earlier this week, but they also taught us why we should never judge a book by its cover.

When I first saw those pictures I became slightly enraged. I understand that people fall on hard times and have no choice but to give up their pets when they can no longer take care of them, but why tie it to a fire hydrant? Can they not find a way to bring it to an animal shelter and surrender it safely?!? Yes, most animal shelters charge a fee for surrendering your pet, but most of them will work with someone who simply cannot pay it.

The only thing that made me not start spitting fire about seeing an abandoned dog tied to a fire hydrant is the fact that the owner(s) left a backpack filled with toys, food, treats, and a note too. To me, that shows they cared for their 'Baby Girl'  and really want her to find the loving home she deserves.

Wisconsin Humane Society's Response to Baby Girl's Owners

After receiving Baby Girl into their care, the Green Bay Campus of the Wisconsin Humane Society shared a heartwarming update and special message for the dog's previous owners on Facebook. The part that really hit me hard in the feels was this;

First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend. It’s evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life. We see your love in the bag you carefully packed with all of her favorite things. We see your love in the way you secured her leash so she wouldn’t get hit by a car. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she’d be quickly found. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could.

If the Humane Society isn't mad about how Baby Girl was surrendered, how can we be?

Baby Girl is still under mandatory stray hold at the Wisconsin Humane Society in Green Bay, but she will be ready to find her new forever home soon. If you're interested in adopting Baby Girl, visit wihumane.org.
