Waffles Recalled In Illinois, Other States Due To Plastic Pieces
Here's a quick recap of just some of the food products that have been recalled over the last few months here in Illinois and scattered across the country, along with the reason for the recall:
- Deli meats: 7 million pounds recalled due to listeria concerns
- Vegetables: Again, listeria contamination.
- Frozen chicken: 84 tons were recalled because of metal wire being found in products
- Canned coffee: 100 brand and millions of cans were recalled because of concerns over botulism contamination
- Apple juice: Initially, it was about 10,000 cases being recalled over worries of arsenic contamination, but that number was recently raised to over 130,000 cases
- Eggs: Worries about salmonella poisoning are behind this latest recall
Now, frozen waffles have been added to this ever-growing list of food product recalls, and the reason for this recall is different than the others listed above.
With The Other Food Product Recalls We Had Listeria, Arsenic, Botulism, Salmonella And Metal Pieces--With This One It's Plastic Film
By "this one," I mean the recall of thousands of boxes of buttermilk and vanilla waffles by KodiakCakes that began earlier this month, after being initialized back in August.
In a recent notice to customers of Costco, Kodiak said that Costco members in the "Midwest region" should return the Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla 40 count boxes with a use by date of January 10, 2026
According to Costco Wholesale's website, the "Midwest region" consists of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
This Waffle Recall Has Been Classified As A Class II Food Recall
Which means that the waffles could cause what they describe as "adverse" health reactions if you consume them. That's much better than Class I, which the USDA says is a "a health hazard situation in which there is a reasonable probability that eating the food will cause health problems or death."
Bottom line: If you have any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away, or return them to where you bought them for a full refund.
Affected customers are urged to call Kodiak at 801-328-4067 with additional questions, or email flapjacks@kodiakcakes.com.
