Urlacher Is Looking To Buy A Major League Baseball Team

The Hall of Fame linebacker is part of a group looking to buy the Mets. 

Earlier this year, it was announced (to the delight of every Mets fan) that the WIlpons, who own a majority of the Mets, had to sell their stake in the team by October of this year. A bid of $2 billion has already reportedly been offered by hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen but yesterday a report of a star studded group of former athletes are pooling their resources to try and acquire the WIlpons share.

ESPN - Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce and 2014 NFL Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray are part of a group of investors who have joined power couple Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez in a bid to buy the New York Mets

Other investors include future Hall of Fame offensive lineman Joe Thomas, who spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns, two-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards, and Denver Nuggets center Mason Plumlee.

The group's combined bid is reportedly at $1.7 billion, about $300 million less than the current top bid, but the Wilpons have reportedly stated that they would rather sell the team to this new group at a possibly lower bid.

The current coronavirus situation could obviously affect everything but it sounds like this could be a done deal sometime this fall.

Everything is of course pending approval from Rob Manfred, who hasn't had the best past 6 months, so we'll have to wait and see.
