U.S. Senate candidate Doug Truax joined the show this week on the heels of two big endorsements.

The first-time candidate was backed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock in his primary fight with State Senator Jim Oberweis. We asked Truax how the dynamics of the race had changed since a higher-profile challenger entered the field:

My greatest asset is that I'm a non-politician. In a lot of ways people are really dialed in to that opportunity, but it also means that I have low name recognition out of the gate. So we've been working on that. We have a fantastic ground game across the state and I've been really busy going out and seeing everyone.

The winner of the GOP primary moves on to face the incumbent, Senator Dick Durbin. Who, by the way, has flat-out lied to the country on national TV for two of the past three Sundays -- here about Obamacare and here about the nation's debt problem.
