The Rockford Park District says both Alpine Hills Snow Park and Alpine Pool are on the chopping block.

The Rockford Park District board says that they believe raising taxes is not the answer to the financial problems currently faced by the Rockford Park District, but something has to be done.

It would appear that the "suspension" of both Alpine Hills Snow Park and Alpine Pool is part of the overall solution as the board prepares to present and vote on a new budget in a couple of weeks.

“Reduce our footprint so we’ll be very aggressive next year in reducing that footprint by closing certain facilities and perhaps selling surplus land we don’t have immediate recreational need for,” said Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners President, Ian Linnabary.

If this budget passes it will be the sixth straight year the park district hasn’t raised taxes, the vote is scheduled for November 19th.
