Is it a car jacking epidemic of pandemic? I don't know the difference between the two.

Hey google... What's the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic?

So according to that, Chicago has a car jacking "epidemic," if it starts to spread across the country, then it will become a pandemic.

Something for the criminals to aspire to I guess.

CBS 2 in Chicago has put together some graphics on just how out of control the car jacking scene has grown in Chicago over the last year.

This map shows the explosion in the number of car jackings over the last 18 months or so and it is eye-opening.

Less than 50 at the beginning of 2019 to more than 200 to finish off 2021. A 300% increase for any sort of crime over a 2 year period is a cause for alarm.

And here's where it's getting especially scary for Chicagoans. It's no secret the Chicago has a history of being a violent, dangerous city, that has been the narrative for pretty much as long as I can remember.  What's changed drastically over the last year or so is where the crimes have been taking place.

There used to be "pockets" of crime in Chicago. Places where you just didn't go because it was dangerous. Conversely, there were LOTS of places in Chicago that were absolutely safe. That has gone away now and criminals are taking their crimes to all parts of the city.

While there still is a concentration of crimes in the notoriously rough areas of South and West Chicago, carjackings are occurring all over the city.

And that's what happened to two unnamed Chicago Blackhawk players last week.

Two players were dining at the Little Goat in the West Loop. A very nice casual restaurant. The kind of place where you won't find a burger for less than $15. Their rides were stolen by two men who held up the valet stand.

NYPost - According to the outlet, the valet worker told cops that he was confronted by two men — one holding a gun — who demanded he open the key box. The men then drove off with a Porsche Panamera and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which belonged to Blackhawks players.

The cars have reportedly been recovered, no word on what kind of condition they were in.

You don't have to completely avoid Chicago, yet, but if you do visit make sure your head is on a swivel at all times, it's getting dangerous out there.
