Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says the Thompson Center in Chicago is a big drain on taxpayers' wallets, it doesn't serve the purpose for which it was intended, and what's more, it's beyond rehab and refurb. Not really the best pitch for what he has in mind: selling it to the highest bidder. The architect says the governor is wrong, that the building should be rehabbed and re-purposed. Another note to make it even more interesting is that Rauner can't do anything without the approval of the General Assembly, a group that's probably not that all interested in playing along with the governor's ideas.

If you don't know much about the building, Matt Dietrich at Reboot Illinois has a video tour for you in his excellent series "Only in Illinois"
