Chicago's Original UFO Style Building

One of the biggest jokes when it comes to architecture in Chicago has to be Soldier Field. When they renovated the stadium, it turned a historic landmark into the punchline of a bad joke. Most Bear fans and Illinois residents call it a spaceship because it looks like something out of a cheesy science fiction movie.

The funny thing is that isn't the only UFO-inspired structure in the city. The Thompson Center also has the same feel to it. It really sticks out like a sore thumb in the city. The design is not ideal and they've had numerous technical issues with it through the years.

Thompson Center Is A Famous Building

The Thompson Center is one of those famous buildings that you see in many movies. The unique look makes it very recognizable. Recently, it was used in the latest Batman flick but its list of film credits is very long.

For Sale But Who's Buying?

The state of Illinois opened the Thompson Center in 1985. It reminds me of if a millionaire builds a huge gaudy mansion that no one else would ever want to live in. Then they try to sell it for a boat load of cash but it doesn't have any takers. Kind of like Michael Jordan's old house in the Chicago area.

The Thompson Center is available for purchase but who in the heck is going to buy it? I guess miracles do really happen.

According to mystateline.com,

Google is buying The Thompson Center in Downtown Chicago.

Yes, you read that correctly. Google is taking this monstrosity off the hands of Illinois. Plus, they are bringing jobs and tax revenue. Think about all that money our state will save by not being responsible for it anymore.
