There are few things that people in Hollywood enjoy more than giving each other awards and long-winded speeches. With that in mind, the 88th Annual Academy Awards (or, Oscars) are going to be handed out this Sunday night (6pm on ABC).

My friend Michael Koolidge put it best when he said that the Oscars are best when you record the show on your DVR, then you fast-forward through all the dead, boring, lame, or offensive parts to just check out the awards you actually care about. Or maybe you think the best idea is to skip the whole thing entirely.

Whether you love or loathe the Oscars, there are some pretty interesting nuggets of info in a cool infographic by John S. Kiernan  at Wallet Hub.

Some Oscars-by-the-numbers:

  • $220,000 is the estimated value of the "swag bag" given to each Oscar nominee
  • 45 seconds is amount of time allotted for acceptance speeches (then the music cuts them off)
  • 39 is the number of years between Sylvester Stallone's Oscar nominations for playing Rocky Balboa
  • 225 is the number of countries and territories that will televise the Oscars live
  • $1.8M-$2.2M is the cost of a 30 second commercial during the Oscars, 56-64% cheaper than the Super Bowl
  • 220 minutes is how long last year's Academy Awards show ran (3 hours, 40 minutes)
  • $680 is the estimated value of the 24-carat gold plated Oscar Statuette
  • $3500 is the average cost of preparing a Hollywood actress for the red carpet
  • $30,000 is the cost of the 16,500 square foot Oscars red carpet
  • 0 minutes is the amount of time that I intend to spend watching the show, but that's just me. Your results may vary.
