A fine film can do an amazing job of mimicking real life. Adding an incredible actor to the mix can only make things better.

The Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week, and if you haven't seen any of the best picture nominees yet, AMC is giving you a chance.

The Academy Awards were held last night in Hollywood. While I watched I wondered if anyone from Rockford won an Oscar.

There are few things that people in Hollywood enjoy more than giving each other awards and long-winded speeches. With that in mind, the 88th Annual Academy Awards (or, Oscars) are going to be handed out this Sunday night (6pm on ABC).

Despite some nominees insistence that it is they, the white people, who are suffering under the brutal oppression of racism, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to respond to the growing controversy over the lack of diversity among this year’s Oscar nominees by making some significant changes to how it selects its members, and then how it maintains those members once they’re admitted into the group.

The greatest outrage stirred by last week’s announcement of the Oscar nominees was not the Best Picture snub for Carol or the absurd exclusion of Todd Haynes from the Best Director category, but rather the troubling homogeneity of the twenty men and women nominated in the acting categories. Specifically, many have taken issue with the fact that this year’s Oscar slate looks about as white as a Whole Foods before noon on a Sunday. The social media hashtag OscarsSoWhite resurfaced within minutes after the nomination announcement had finished, and Spike Lee has even called for a boycott of the ceremony as a response to the blatant lack of diversity in this year’s picks.
