Every year (weather permitting), the Rockford Park District presents the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, with the next one coming up January 14-18 in Sinnissippi Park. It's an incredible event, with some really outstanding entries.

If you'd like to take part, download an application/entry form here.

If walking on, rather than sculpting the snow appeals to you, then you'll be interested in the work of artist Simon Beck.

He is neither carving nor sculpting the snow, he does his work of art just by walking over a fresh snowfall. He walks miles in the snow to create these mind-blown pieces. He is truly a man who loves art, because he spends several hours making each design, knowing it will be covered with another layer of snow the next day.

Wandering around in the cold all day is not my idea of a good time, but I'm glad that Simon digs it.
