Heritage Foundation chief economist Stephen Moore is an Illinois native and a University of Illinois graduate, so he has a soft spot in his heart for the Land of Lincoln. He told us in a recent interview that he believes the race for Illinois governor is the single biggest race in the country in November and echoed that sentiment in a piece last week at National Review Online.

Moore joined us on the show this week to discuss his personal relationship with Bruce Rauner and whether he will follow through on promises made during the campaign. The conversation turned the the recent decision by Walgreen to remain in the U.S. and turn down the opportunity for a corporate inversion.

As we've discussed previously, Sen. Dick Durbin had been writing threatening letters to Walgreen executives and warning the company of punishing legislation as they discussed the possibility. Moore didn't mince words when the Senator's name was brought up:

Dick Durbin is one of the biggest bullies in Washington and this guy has got to be stopped. The guy is just a big bully who abuses the power of his office in ways that are really detrimental to the U.S. Senate and to our Congress. People in Illinois should hold him accountable for this. He did the same thing with some of these conservative groups. He didn't like what they were doing and so he demanded they disclose their donors. I'm sick of this guy. I hope the people of Illinois see what this guy is doing and react in a very negative way and remember this in November.

Here's the full conversation with Heritage's Stephen Moore. The Durbin conversation starts at about the 10:20 mark:
