We were supposed to talk to Heritage chief economist Stephen Moore about the forthcoming re-authorization vote for the Export-Import Bank and his recent piece answering the question, "Who Shrank the Deficit?"

And we did talk about those topics. However the best part of the conversation came when we veered slightly off-topic to discuss Illinois-related issues.

About halfway thorough our chat, the Illinois-native wanted to deliver a message to voters in his home state about this November's election:

The eyes of the nation are upon you in Illinois because you have the most important political race in the country...with what Bruce Rauner is doing to try to win the governorship and really fix the state of Illinois. Illinois has become one of the lowest growth states. You're losing jobs, you're losing capital...and I just hope the people of Illinois have the courage to make the change to bring in someone who will make Illinois great again. And he will do that.
