There are plenty of states where law enforcement's focus is not heavily on folks breaking the speed limit. Illinois is not one of those states.

As a matter of fact, there are only a handful of states in the U.S. that are as tough or tougher on speeding and reckless driving as Illinois is.

Personal-finance website WalletHub did what they do so well--crunch the numbers--to determine which states are more likely to send you off with a ticket rather than a warning in their piece entitled "Strictest And Most Lenient States on Speeding and Reckless Driving."

Here's what WalletHub's experts looked at to make their determinations:

American drivers routinely exceed the speed limit. Before you underestimate the danger of exceeding the speed limit, consider that in 2016, speeding was a factor in 27 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths. Speeding is costly, too. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that the annual economic cost to society of speeding-related crashes is $40.4 billion. To find out which states take the hardest line on dangerous driving behavior, WalletHub compared driving laws in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

First off, let's look at the top 5 toughest places to be a speeder.

1) Delaware

2) Colorado

3) Arizona

4) New Mexico

5) California

Next, the 5 most lenient.

47) Nebraska

48) New Jersey

49) Oklahoma

50) Mississippi

51) Texas

As for Illinois, we come in at the "probably won't give you a written warning" #8 spot.

Wisconsin is tied at #39 with Michigan.

Minnesota is tied at #34 with Indiana.

Iowa is #16.

Missouri is #29.

Whoever you are, and whatever you do on the highways and bi-ways of this great state, please don't be like this guy. Please:
