ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Volunteers are getting ready to decorate a huge blue spruce installed in downtown Rockford for the city's holiday celebration.

The 30-foot-tall, two-ton tree was donated by Heritage Baptist Church in Roscoe. It was chosen from a dozen that were offered to the city this year.

The tree was brought to Rockford on Tuesday with the help of a police escort, and installed in a plaza on State Street. It'll be decorated Friday and Saturday in preparation for the holiday-themed "Stroll on State," which will take place Nov. 29.

The event debuted last year, drawing about 30,000 people. It includes shopping, music and family activities.
