The question always pops up around major holidays, and its especially relevant considering the wrapping paper and boxes that soon are headed for the trash: Is the garbage collection schedule changing for the next two weeks?

According to a press release from the city of Rockford, there will be no delay in garbage collection during Christmas week. Collection will occur on its regular schedule through Thursday, December 24, 2015.

Additionally, there will be no delay in Garbage collection the following week. Garbage collection will occur on its regular schedule from Monday, December 28 through Thursday, December 31, 2015.

The Household Hazardous Waste site at 3333 Kishwaukee Street will be open as usual on the weekends of December 26 and December 27, 2015, and January 2 and January 3, 2016. The site is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Residents also may drop-off, at any time, used and obsolete electronics such as cell phones, computers, laptops, or TVs free of charge at the following two Kelley-Williamson Kelley’s Market Mobil convenience store locations in the blue e-cycling shipping containers located in the parking lots:

  • 550 Southrock Drive (S Main Street and Highway 20)
  • 8061 East State Street (Corner of E State Street and Lyford Road)
