Recently someone asked if I considered myself an essential employee. There are two answers to this question.

  1. Yes, I am essential to my company because of the responsibilities I fulfill but I could do most of my working seemingly anywhere
  2. No, If I wasn't on the radio for a day, week, month, etc., the world would go on without skipping a beat.

There are many different types of essential employees whose jobs are much more essential than mine. In this particular instance, let's focus on the garbage collectors. If he or she were to skip your house for two weeks or more you would quickly notice. Maybe it would help you under the importance of their job and appreciate what they do. If you are big into recycling and live in Rockford you will definitely understand what it's like for your garbage collector to not run by your home for two weeks. It's about to happen, kind of.

The City of Rockford just announced there will be a temporary pause in Rock River Disposal's (RRD) recycling collection from Monday, October 19, through the end of the month. This is due to COVID-19 related illness, isolation, and quarantining within the company.

The City of Rockford has worked with RRD to support their mitigation efforts and help control the spread of COVID-19 within their staff while having the least impact on our residents. Starting the week of October 19, recycling pickup will be suspended for two weeks, which is equal to one COVID-19 incubation period.

During the two-week period, any recycling place at the curb will be disposed of with the regular garbage collection. After the two-week period is complete RRD will reevaluate before continuing recycling collection.
