While most of us think of Thanksgiving as a time to come together with friends and family and reconnect, the truth is that thousands of people, many here in Rockford, won't have a feast to sit down to on Thursday.

That's why hundreds of local residents will be thankful for the Court Street United Methodist Church this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving dinner will be celebrated by more than 770 local residents during the annual, free Thanksgiving Dinner at Court Street United Methodist Church. The dinner, which is one of Rockford's largest, will begin at 11 AM on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24th and continue until 1 PM.

"This is a wonderful tradition of caring and love that has been going on since 1981 at Court Street United Methodist Church," pointed out Sue Cram, Thanksgiving Chail. "Everyone is welcome to attend, but we especially want the homeless and those who find themselves alone to know they are welcome to take part."

This year, they will be handing out carryout meals and drive-through meals to their guests. Approximately 100 volunteers will step forward to help prepare the turkey breast needed, along with mashed potatoes, vegetables, dressing, and 175 pies. "This wonderful dinner wouldn't be possible without the help of our loyal and caring volunteers," added Cram.
