Quinn Defends Anti-Violence Program Spending

On the heels of subpoenas and an investigation launched by the Cook County state’s attorney, Gov. Pat Quinn says he did the right thing with respect to an anti-violence program that he started in 2010.

A state auditor already found problems with management and spending, but Quinn says he has addressed those.  “I identified problems myself, our government saw that that particular program needed fundamental overhaul.  We abolished the agency that was involved in it,” he said.

Meanwhile Republicans, including governor candidate Bruce Rauner, say it appears the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative is an example of corruption in state politics.  “It looks like the whole thing was more of a slush fund for electoral politics than it truly was to serve the people of the state,” Rauner said.
