JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a 25-year-old Illinois man was killed and another was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash in southern Wisconsin.

The fatal accident occurred Tuesday night as the man was driving southbound on Interstate 39 near Janesville on Tuesday night. The Wisconsin State Patrol says the man lost control of his vehicle, which rolled into a ditch and struck two trees, after the driver in front of him braked.

First responders found the man unresponsive and the passenger, a 27-year-old Illinois man, in critical condition. Both men were taken with life-threatening injuries to a hospital, where the driver later died.

The State Patrol says both men were wearing seatbelts.
