Nearly Half of Illinoisans Planning Spring Break Getaway
A new report says that 44% of Illinoisans are getting ready to take a spring break vacation of 3 days or more.
According to the results of a AAA-Chicago Consumer Pulse Survey, of the 44% who are planning a trip, 36% will travel with family, and only 8% will travel with friends. In the Millennial demographic, 55% of Illinois' Millennials plan on heading out for at least 3 days during spring break, with 42% traveling with family, and 13% with friends.
“Florida is a perfect spring break destination for people traveling with family or friends,” said Vicky Evans, Assistant Vice President, Travel Sales Development, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Illinois Travelers love Florida for its warm weather, drivable distance, world-famous attractions, and beautiful beaches. “Hawaii and Mexico, which are also favorite hot spots for spring breakers, are even more popular this year,” Evans continued. “After last year’s hurricanes struck the Eastern Caribbean, travelers turned to Hawaii and Mexico, as alternatives. Fortunately, the Eastern Caribbean has recovered and travel providers are offering incentives to get people back into the region.”
Not surprisingly, Florida holds the #1 and #2 most popular destinations. The top 10 choices for a spring break vacation spot are:
- Orlando, Florida
- Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- Cancun, Mexico
- Anaheim, California
- Kahului, Hawaii (Maui)
- Miami, Florida
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Montego Bay, Jamaica
