Getting to Chicago this weekend couldn't get easier or cheaper.

For the first time in Metra's history, they are waiving all fares for the entire weekend.

This Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17, you can ride wherever Metra goes and not pay a dime.

Timeout - “We survived the polar vortex - now let’s have some fun,” Metra CEO and executive director Jim Derwinski said in a press release. “There is a lot to do in Chicago and the suburbs and Metra can take you there.”

Locally, the closest station is Harvard. However, you will find that trains run more frequently out of Crystal Lake or Elgin.

I personally can't recommend taking the Metra into Chicago enough. It's cheap, (real cheap this weekend) and you don't have to worry about your car once you get into town.

One piece of advice to any newbies on the Metra. Check to make sure you're not on a quiet car if you're going to talk. You can make enemies real fast if you break that golden rule of Metra.

Get out there and ride the rails this weekend.
