Citing time, interest, sponsorships, and the cost of materials, the Rock River Anything That Floats Race has been canned for 2021.

REMEMBER THE ROCK RIVER RAFT RACE?

In case you aren't aware the Anything That Floats Race originally called the Rock River Raft Race has been around for quite a while.

The Anything That Floats Race has been going for the past five or six years. Well, until last year.

COVID SINKS ANYTHING THAT FLOATS

In 2020, COVID canceled the race. In 2021, lack of interest may have been the biggest deciding factor.

According to a press release, the committee behind the race polled past captains and followers on their social media channels to see how many teams would be interested in a race this summer. Apparently, they received 6 responses.

OTHER FACTORS IN THE CANCELLATION

They also pointed out missing sponsorships as part of the issue saying "we know we cannot rely on those who have supported us so generously in the past to do so in this late-pandemic environment - especially on short notice."

While there won't be a Rock River Anything That Floats Race in 2021, the committee is "redoubling" their efforts in hope of bringing in back in 2022.

EVENTS IN PANDEMIC WORLD

Unfortunately, COVID has impacted many events, some of which will never come back.

It would be a shame to see an event with as much history as the Rock River Raft Race come to an end.
