Kids Can Have a ‘Hay Day’ At Rockford Park On Wednesdays

On Wednesdays, most Rockford public schools have early dismissal at 11 a.m. and now there's something for the kids to do after class.

Over at Lockwood Park, there are 146 acres of woods and paths for the kids to enjoy, and hay too. Call this experience "life on a farm" because that is what the children will be enjoying on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 5:20 through the end of December on Lockwood. Each week will be filled with hands-on (with sanitizer) lessons and activities with horses, ponies, arts and crafts, and more.

These unique programs include animal adventures and exploring Lockwood's 146 acres of scenic woods and prairie path, where participants will learn about the world around them, and the importance of agriculture.

The weekly Wednesday program is $30 per child, ages 5-8, and $35 non-resident each week.

For "no school" days like Columbus Day, there will be unique experiences as well. For Columbus Day specifically, kids will learn about the park’s woodlands, wetlands, and prairies "from the perspective of an explorer in a new land." The fee for this special event is $40 per child, ages 5-8, with an additional admission rate for non-residents. The timeline for this specific say is 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
