Hononegah wrestler gains national recognition

Hononegah's Anthony Cassioppi, the defending IHSA 3A 285-pound champion, was named Athlete of the Week by TheMat.com after a dominant month of summer wrestling.

According to teamusa.org, earlier this month Cassioppi won the Greco-Roman gold at 264 pounds at the Junior Pan American Championships in Peru and also won the men's freestyle tournament.

This past weekend in Oklahoma, Cassioppi won 14 matches at the Junior Nationals Duals, to make the All-Tournament Team at 285 pounds in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
