It's always a good feeling to know that you're doing something right. For years, I've swapped out the old batteries in my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors the same night that we set the clocks forward or back. I've done it for so long, it's become an unbreakable habit.

The Rockford Fire Department would like to remind residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors this weekend as daylight savings time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2015 and clocks change back one hour.
According to the United States Fire Administration (USFA), more than 3,500 people die in home fires each year in the United States; most of which are in homes without a
working smoke alarm.
“A working, properly installed smoke alarm lowers your chances of dying in a fire,” said Division Chief Matthew Knott. “Please take a few minutes this weekend to check your smoke alarms and review your fire safety plans with your family.”
